The SMART8 Remote is a Super 8 intervalometer that lets you control intervals, timers, and single-frame (tap) shooting from your smartphone — without changing any extra settings on the camera.
Many Super 8 cameras include a built-in timer or intervalometer. SMART8 brings the same idea, but with more flexible settings, precise timing, and a workflow designed for timelapse and stop-motion.
The further advantages of the conventional camera intervalometers in the SMART8 remote are that it allows almost all individual settings to be made flexibly via smartphone, without requiring any further settings on the camera.
With the SMART8 intervalometer, you can automatically control Super 8 recordings: time-lapse, stop-motion and single-frame/single-image recordings without manual triggering.
The SMART8 remote control precisely adopts your desired interval and timer settings. It is therefore particularly suitable for tripod setups and controlled takes – frame-accurate. The number of triggered frames is also counted.
Intervalometer for Super 8 cameras
Example 1: Timelapse with delayed start
You’re planning a timelapse (construction site / sunrise). The event starts in 6 hours. Your camera should shoot one frame every 2 seconds. Playback should be 1 minute at 25 fps.
Set your camera to single-frame and configure SMART8 like this:
Mode: Interval
FPS: 25 Every N seconds: 2
Timers: Start after: 6h
Stop at frame: 1500 (25 frames per second multiplied by 60 to get one minute of playback).
Press Start. SMART8 counts time until 6 hours are reached, then triggers the first frame. The frame counter starts at 1 and increases every 2 seconds. At 1500 frames, SMART8 stops automatically.
The counter for the Film then reads 00:01:00, and the Meters and Feet used are also displayed accordingly.
Example 2: Fixed duration event
Same setup, but the event lasts 5 minutes and you want 4 frames per second during capture.
Therefore, the camera remains in single-frame mode, and the SMART8 Remote is configured as follows:
Mode: Interval
FPS: 25
Hz: 4 (Frames/sec.)
Timers: Start after: 6h
Stop after: 5 m
Press Start.
After 6 hours, SMART8 begins triggering at 4 fps. After 5 minutes of real time, it stops automatically.
Further advantages
- Many cameras require more power when the built-in intervalometer is active. With the Smart8 Remote, the camera remains in single-frame mode.
- Precise and individual settings with exactly definable pulses. Built-in intervalometers often only cover a vaguely defined range.
- Independent of the camera, the SMART8 Remote offers virtually limitless recording possibilities, from fractions of a second to minutes, hours, and even days, with precise timing.
- No camera with a built-in intervalometer is necessary, provided the camera is remote-capable and has a single-frame mode
- Only a few cameras have a frame counter – the SMART8 Remote enables frame counting for frame-accurate film costing
Features include:
- Freely adjustable interval (timelapse)
- Tap / Single frame (for stop-motion)
- Start/Stop + Timer
- Start in / Stop at (time and frames)
- Frame counter & time counter (trigger-based for tap/interval)
